LUTH Commissions Modernized E7 Private Wing, Marking a New Era of Executive Patients
The Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) today, Thursday, 11th December 2025, commissioned the newly renovated Ward E7 Private Outpatients Centre, marking another significant milestone in its ongoing commitment to delivering world-class, patient-centered healthcare services to Nigerians across all social and economic categories. The event, held at the Surgical Skill Unit of the hospital, was attended by top dignitaries, including the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Professor Wasiu Lanre Adeyemo, FAS; the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, who served as the Special Guest of Honour; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Foluso Ebun Lesi; Barr. Yetunde Ogunlewe; Professor Ademola Oremosu; Professor Ayodeji Oluwole, CMAC; Ms. Omolola Fakeye, Director of Administration (LUTH); and several key members of hospital management.
The remodeled Ward E7 private outpatient center is now fully operational. It features modern consultation rooms, upgraded diagnostic facilities, and an enhanced patient experience designed to meet international service standards for premium patients.
In his remarks, Professor Adeyemo emphasized that LUTH’s services are not meant solely for the poor, as is sometimes assumed, but are available to all Nigerians who desire dependable and high-quality healthcare. He noted that the country is going through a challenging period, with every segment of society feeling the impact, and stressed that what people truly seek is quality service, whether locally or internationally. He highlighted that LUTH’s Cancer Centre is now the best in West Africa, attracting patients daily because of its reputation for excellence, and reiterated that when quality care is available at home, Nigerians will no longer need to travel abroad.
Professor Adeyemo also underscored LUTH’s unique strength as a teaching hospital, where patients benefit from coordinated care involving multiple specialists. He expressed deep appreciation to the Director of LUTH Initiative Limited, Dr. Adebowale Adewunmi, for his vision and dedication, and acknowledged the unwavering support of the hospital management team in driving the institution’s transformation agenda.
Providing insight into the evolution of the Ward E7 unit, Dr. Adewunmi explained that the wing originally served as a center for comprehensive medical check-ups for senior executives in the banking, oil and gas, and corporate sectors. Over time, it became clear that patients required a broader range of services, including specialized follow-up, minor procedures, and diagnostic support within the same space. This led to the development of an expanded executive medical service model. Under the leadership of Professor Adeyemo, the E7 wing underwent a full transformation, with a significant increase in consultation rooms, the introduction of electronic medical records, the provision of on-site diagnostic services such as X-ray and procedure rooms, a redesigned reception and waiting area offering improved comfort, and enhanced workflow to support minor surgical, urology, gynecology, and general procedures. Dr. Adewunmi noted that while progress may have begun later than desired, it is never too late to make meaningful and necessary changes, and emphasized that the unit has come a long way from what it used to be.
The Special Guest of Honour, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, commended LUTH for its vision and commitment, describing the renovation as a critical step toward improving patient experience, reducing medical tourism, and rebuilding public trust in the Nigerian healthcare system. She referenced findings from a UNILAG research study, which showed that Nigerians place high value on respectful and courteous treatment, reduced waiting time, and a sense of being heard, valued, and comfortable. She noted that Nigerians do not question the technical competence of their doctors; rather, the concern often lies in how they are treated and how long they wait, and she affirmed that the renovation of Ward E7 directly addresses these concerns.
Professor Ogunsola further remarked that the upgraded private wing will attract influential Nigerians whose positive experiences will help change long-standing perceptions about public healthcare. The newly commissioned Ward E7 wing is designed to provide a level of service comparable to international private healthcare facilities, offering enhanced comfort, improved workflow, and digital integration, and positioning LUTH as a preferred destination for Nigerians who might otherwise travel abroad for care.
Reaffirming LUTH’s long-term vision, the CMD stated that the institution’s goal is to provide, within Nigeria, the same quality of healthcare that citizens often travel overseas to seek. As one of the country’s largest and most advanced tertiary health institutions, LUTH remains committed to excellence in specialist care, medical training, and research, and continues to advance healthcare delivery in Nigeria through innovation, capacity building, and infrastructural development.
