OPENING CEREMONY OF LUTH WEEK 2025
Theme: Advancing Healthcare Excellence: Innovation, Empathy, and Resilience
The 2025 LUTH Week officially commenced on Monday, October 20th, 2025, with an inspiring inter-faith opening ceremony held at Hall 36. The event ushered in a week dedicated to celebrating excellence, innovation, compassion, and unity in healthcare.
he programme began with an opening address by Mr. Showemimo, who warmly welcomed the Top Management Committee, Heads of Departments, distinguished directors, and members of staff.
An opening prayer and scripture reading were led by Rev. Fr. Ikenna Ikwechi of the Catholic Chaplaincy, LUTH, setting a reverent tone for the day’s activities.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo, FAS, expressed appreciation to all staff for their dedication and punctuality, extending special recognition to Rev. Fr. Ikwechi and other invited guests. He commended the commitment of staff across all cadres, emphasizing that “from the lowest to the highest, every contribution counts toward the hospital’s success.”
Prof. Adeyemo also highlighted the Federal Government’s ongoing investments in healthcare infrastructure and reaffirmed LUTH’s zero tolerance stance on corruption, calling on all staff to remain steadfast in integrity and accountability.
Reiterating his commitment to transparency and open communication, the CMD encouraged staff to freely share ideas for institutional growth. He emphasized LUTH’s foundational pillars (Patient Care, Research, and Training) He also gave updates on ongoing projects, expressing optimism that several would be completed before the end of the year. He further appreciated the strong turnout at the LUTH Week Health Walk held on Saturday, October 18th, and encouraged full participation in the remaining activities, concluding with a note of faith and hope: “By the special grace of God, we started well, so we will end well.”
The sacred readings continued with Rev. Fr. John-Okoria Ibhakewanlan, SJ (represented by Rev. Fr. Ikwechi), who read from Luke 10:30–37. This was followed by the Chief Imam of the LUTH/CMUL Muslim Community, Alhaji Abdullateef Ibrahim, who recited from Qur’an 24:35 and 30:17–23.
Prayers and intercessions were offered for patients, medical professionals, the hospital community, and the nation. The Chief Imam also extended prayers to the hospital’s management board.
In her closing remarks, Ms. Omolola Fakeye, JP, Director of Administration, expressed heartfelt appreciation to all attendees, acknowledging the leadership of the CMD and the consistent spiritual support of the religious community. She praised staff for their diligence and empathy, noting that “without your efforts, there would be no hospital.” She encouraged everyone to fully engage in activities throughout the week, reminding staff that LUTH Week is not a competition but an opportunity for connection, collaboration, and unity.
The ceremony concluded with final blessings and a closing prayer led by the religious leaders. The inter-faith service ultimately set a reflective and hopeful tone for the week, uniting the LUTH family under one shared purpose to advance healthcare excellence through innovation, empathy, and resilience.
