Report on the Management’s Orientation Program for Newly Employed Staff

The Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Management conducted an Orientation Program for newly employed staff on the 29th of September, 2025 at the Human Resources Auditorium.
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo (FAS), welcomed Top management and members of staff. He emphasized that LUTH, as a Federal Government institution, is dedicated to patient care irrespective of cadre or profession. He urged staff to familiarize themselves with the Public Service Rules and guidelines on promotions while stressing the importance of discipline. He strongly cautioned against collecting money from patients, bullying, harassment (sexual, verbal, or physical), selling items within the hospital, and doctors or nurses selling drugs to patients. He warned that offenders would face prosecution. He also encouraged punctuality, professionalism, and adherence to rules, urging staff to always report to their supervisors.
The Director of Administration, Ms. Omolola Fakeye (JP), welcomed the new staff on behalf of management. She advised them to maintain professionalism in both dressing and conduct, to inform their superiors when absent, and to uphold the hospital’s tradition of excellence.
The Deputy Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Babawale Bello, spoke on the ideal LUTH staff. He urged staff to align their roles with the hospital’s vision and mission and stressed the importance of proper dressing, noting that “you will be addressed the way you are dressed.”


The Head of Family Medicine, Dr. Patrick Orumbie, explained the role of the Family Medicine Department, located on the 3rd floor of the Accident and Emergency building. He outlined the services available within the department, which includes NHIA, Environmental, Records, Psychology, and Nursing. He emphasized that the clinic provides healthcare services to staff, their spouses, and children, and operates from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with emergencies handled at the Accident and Emergency unit beyond clinic hours. He further highlighted the requirement for medical clearance before resumption of duty and to be discharged after sick leave.
The Director of Pharmacy Services, represented by Pharm. Alex, stated that the department provides services to inpatients and outpatients through different pharmacy centers of the Hospital.
The Director of Nursing Services, represented by DDNS Adeniyi, explained that the department is divided into hospital and theatre services. She stressed punctuality and attendance, warning that lateness and absenteeism would not be tolerated. She also emphasized Love and compassion toward patients and colleagues, discipline, adherence to hierarchy, proper dressing, and the mandatory wearing of badges.
The Head of Human Resources, Mr. Olusola Abiona, reiterated the need to abide by public service rules. He noted that all staff would undergo a mandatory two-year probation period, after which they would either be confirmed or dismissed depending on conduct. He emphasized professionalism, punctuality, and patient-centered service as key expectations.
The program concluded with an address by the Chief Security Officer, Mr. Doutimewei, who cautioned staff against shady practices and encouraged them to promptly report misconduct to the security department.
