LUTH COMMISSIONS THE WOLE OLANIPEKUN PHYSIOTHERAPY CENTER, LUTH

On Saturday, July 26, 2025, the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) commissioned the Wole Olanipekun Physiotherapy Center (WOPC), LUTH a modern, patient centered rehabilitation facility designed to elevate the standard of physiotherapy care in Nigeria.



The center was donated by Mr. Bode Olanipekun and Mrs. Tolu Olanipekun in honor of their father, Chief Wole Olanipekun, CFR, SAN, LLD, DLitt, a highly respected legal icon and national figure. In his welcome address, the Chief Medical Director of LUTH, Professor Wasiu Lanre Adeyemo, FAS thanked the donors on behalf of the hospital management, patients, students, and indeed the entire country. He praised the Olanipekun family for going above and beyond to deliver a facility built with excellence, the best materials and quality

Architect Jimi Adetona, who led the project gave a brief review of the project that began in April 2024, described the two-floor facility as one built with excellence, comfort and with Patient in mind. It features 14 treatment cubicles, an adult and a child physiotherapy gym, seminar rooms, a library, a server room, and several administrative spaces. He thanked his team and collaborators, describing the project as “a testament to what collaboration can be.”

In the Host address, Mr. Bode Olanipekun, SAN, credited his wife, Tolu, as the one who conceived the idea to honor their father in such a meaningful way. He emphasized that the initiative was born out of love and admiration for a man whose life of service deserved to be celebrated. He also expressed deep gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for honoring the occasion with his presence.

Chief Wole Olanipekun, visibly moved, expressed heartfelt appreciation to his children for honoring him during his lifetime. He prayed for them and encouraged others to give and celebrate their loved ones.

Goodwill message by Professor Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola, FAS, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, who acknowledged the legacy of Chief Olanipekun and commended his children for continuing in the path of excellence.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his keynote remarks, praised the quality and intent of the project and encouraged all present to find personal ways to contribute to their communities. “A little can be much,” he said, reminding everyone that giving back is most powerful when it expects nothing in return. He reaffirmed his commitment to serving Lagos with integrity and action.

The event concluded with the official unveiling of the commemorative plaque and the ribbon cutting by the Governor, marking the official opening of the Wole Olanipekun Physiotherapy Center, LUTH
